  1. Yes! A Saturday video! Can you analyze VFCorp? The company owns Vans, The North Face, Dickies, and other great brands. The dividend is great and i want to get your insight. Thank you kindly.

    1. Highly leveraged (3,5x Ebitda), cyclical, fluctuating cash flows, dividends being paid out of debt. Dividend cut possible, when it gets ugly price will fall to 30.

Good brands, global, possible long term hold. Dont expect short term miracles.

  2. So, the 2023 portfolio “Sven Carlin s Money” won’t be disclosed on the platform, am i understanding correctly?

    1. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. Sven, is the truth that just like Michael Burry, you were getting out of the market completely? And if you were to advise all your clients to do the same, you would have no product?

Love you!l. Love your research. Results haven’t been great, but I don’t blame you for that, I think you provide a great foundation for investing.

    2. Also, you never answered my question about why you sold Intel. I asked you in the platform, you said it was in the email to subscribers, which it wasn’t, and then you never responded to my follow comments again.

Great research, great personality, not the best business management, ironically.

    3. @Paul Kotyk he’s being slightly slippery and not answering questions directly. Something’s not quite right here.

    4. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. Thank you Sven, i wish you all the best as well! And, especially, i wish you to finally find your long lost clarity of mind after this pause…

    5. @Davidoff He’s either non-responsive or dismissive to questions a lot of the time, it may be an attitude or lack of time available, either way, it’s not the best look.

  3. Question on the country changing, are you moving from the Netherlands? I’m dutch but i live elsewhere and am actually thinking about moving back since the netherlands is a good country tax wise no?

    1. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. oh wow! Did you move to slovenia for the tax benefits or also other reasons?

    2. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. wow! This is the type of info we could use a video on, im paying 50% tax on dividend here😂😂

  4. When I receive the inflation cheque from government, I would like to l join the research platform.

Is there any offer or discount for joining in 2022?
    🙏

    1. sorry, I don’t really do discounts, I plan to increase the price so if you get it now, your price is fixed forever…

  5. Sven, genuine question, isn’t now the time to be buying, not selling? Why are you teaching buying low and selling high, but you are now not only not buying at massive discounts you are selling your holdings? That doesn’t sound like you are practicing what you preach and is not a good strategy long term. Interested in hearing you reasoning for this.

    1. @Fis Tendo but if you are buying businesses for the long term, what’s there to fear? Shouldn’t you be delighted prices are falling? Isn’t now the time to be buying, rather than selling? Sounds to me like he’s trying to time the market which then causes me to question his advice in general as he’s making the #1 worst investment mistake.

    2. Good question – Investing is about understanding how the risk and reward fits you! Not what the market did! Will try to work on explaining that in the future!

    3. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. I understand risk vs reward but selling here sounds like you are trying to time the market. Isn’t that the #1 investing mistake people make? Isn’t that in itself massive risk?

  6. Sven’s platform was such a disappointment for me. I was a member for two years bc I thought he was one of the good and honest investors on youtube…

But I realize now he is just good at marketing, he knows how to act and look trustworthy but he doesn’t keep true to his word. He doesn’t care about you once you pay to his platform, he only cares about getting new platform members.

He acts like he is for long-term but he isn’t. He acts like you can ask him a question but he never gives an honest answer, only a dodgy response like a politician would. He tells you some truth but he doesn’t tell you the whole truth.

For instance while he humble bragged about his performance (while acting sooo shy and humble) he didn’t tell you that in 2022 his portfolio was basically down about 40-50%… So if these stocks didn’t bounce back in these last few months, next year he couldn’t really share his performance on youtube because than it would be only 8%… And this number cannot sell his platform to new subscribers so he decided he needs “some clarity” from the markets and starts a new portfolio from zero, which will again give him good returns because now he just buys back at the bottom…

Meanwhile all the paying platform members were rightfully upset that all of a sudden he closed his model portfolio (which he ALWAYS said was a long term portfolio) and didn’t let the users know for a while (which he always promised to do). And what did he do when people politely asked him about this? He banned commenting and open discussion on his platform about these subjects (and also banned commenting on his stocks that crashed) and said everyone should write him an email instead (because then the new members will not see all the dissatisfied members).

He also gave many reasons for closing the portfolio and he kept changing these as he saw fit for the conversation, at one time he even said he needed the money to buy a new house but as we can see, now it’s not even mentioned in the reasons. (I’m sure he will have a very nice sounding, dodgy response to this as well…)

He also always says on youtube that he explained it in more detail to platform members, but don’t believe it, he didn’t, he even used some of the same slides as he did in this video. He gave us the same reasons and didn’t answer any questions. You can see many disappointed comments like mine under his videos, which just shows that we platform members have no more info.

He says to subscribe to his platform but he spends most of his time doing the youtube videos to gain more platform subscribers and doesn’t really do much new research nowadays on his platform that you would pay for…

I know he will just reply his usual “sorry if you don’t like it, I cannot make everyone happy” pre-fabricated nice-sounding but empty response, but that just shows you how much he truly cares…

    1. hi guys, thanks for posting negative comments on all my videos and almost all comments. I did my best in explaining what and why I do and everything I did. I am sorry that I hurt you in any way, but all I do is for the improvement and increased value creation over the long-term. Ok, I sold some positions at a loss, but as explained I had my reasons for it. Again, I don’t know what to say anymore, this is your 100th comment in the last two weeks. I wish you all the best in life!

    2. @it_s_just_me I don’t think he is a scammer, he does have a platform and he does research. But like you said, things are not black or white.

He was (and still is) intentionally misleading people all the while acting innocent and acting like a victim.

I wrote all my comments because people need to hear the other side of what really happened before they place their trust into such a person, because Sven clearly only tells one side, the side which makes him money, not the whole truth…

    3. @li ju Hi, I am fine with negative comments, but lying is not good. Everything I did, every detail is on the platform, there returns of all portfolios have been great. Yes, some stocks didn’t do well, but most did, that is investing. But please don’t lie!

    4. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. This is exactly the dodgy, empty and misleading response I was expecting. It clearly illustrates my point.

I haven’t wrote a 100 comments in two weeks, I haven’t commented under all the comments here neither only my thread.

It is misleading (false) and you are obviously trying to change the subject.

I only watched this video because the last time I commented (under one video) you said you will answer all the questions in your next video, which you clearly didn’t. (Just because you say you did, that doesn’t mean you did…)

And now you are attacking me, a two-year long subscriber of your platform, and you are acting upset because I still have an honest question?

Why not address the issues about underperformance? Or about why you kept changing your reasons on why sold? Or about why you banned commenting? (I know, I know, you said you got a lot of comments that were not happy so you had to ban it… agh those damn customers…why can’t they just pay you and stay silent…)

It is pretty eye opening to see from a person who supposedly understands and analyzes business, how he handles his own business and his own customers.

Naturally YOU are the victim, not the customers. Naturally YOU did everything right, it’s just those stupid customers don’t understand.

You answer every question, except the ones you keep avoiding. You say you are transparent, but when your paying customers ask questions you just attack them publicly and play the victim.

I mean, come on, what did you expect when you act shady, you don’t give honest answers (yes, I know you say you do…) and than ban commenting on the platform? Where else can we go? Send you an email and get an empty answer back?

And still, you are the one who is upset about us, the paying customers just because we reveal the other side of the truth which you “forgot” to mention in the public? I wonder which business school teaches this attitude…

  7. Sven, just explain something…i really don’ t get why the platform or YT or what else influences your decisions in investing…i mean… didn’t you choose you investings out of your research? What changes now? This is the main question on which answer will make me subscribe next year or not…i really don’t mind if you sold everything…the only thing I care is if I can trust your research

    1. Great question. If you check any wall street related business, we should cater to what most of the clients want. If you stray away, you lose a lot of revenue. Consequently, you might be influenced to make certain researches just for the fan base (think of the Large Portfolio) which then messes with your investing mind too. Just two weeks since detachment of portfolios from research, and I already think much more clearly. I think the benefits will be a great step ahead.

    2. But as long as you run YT your research will always be affected by it, because you need to follow buisnesses which seems to be trendy…

  8. Hi Sven. I don’t comment often, but I’ve followed you for a long time. I want to give you this advice, because I sincerely get value from your content and want you to succeed.
Focus on the fundamentals of your own business! There is nothing more important than the trust of your subscribers, and the value you bring to them. Even if your model portfolio starts to underperform the indexes, or you make some mistakes, that’s part of the journey, and we want to see that. True value investors understand that there will be periods of under-performance, and that even trailing 10 year returns are volatile. Show your subscribers the journey, without worrying about your image, or public perception. There are so many less than honest people in this space, that the truly honest ones deserve, and can command a premium. I’ll take the honest and transparent mentor with a low return over one who can boast a high return that may or may not be due to smoke and mirrors, and who appears to try to hide their mistakes or what have you. Focus on the trust, and also the value that you can bring to your current subscribers. I know this is tough in the near-term, but it is of huge value in the long-term for both yourself, and those who subscribe to you.
Again, I sincerely like your channel, and I want to see you succeed. If you want to charge premium rates for your research platform, this is how I think you will find much more success and be able to actually deliver on that value.

  9. I’m subscribed at the platform, I’m more or less happy. There’s value on the research, good analysis that I couldn’t have time to do on my own.
In the downsides I mainly notice a lack of transparency at several stages.
To list a few: in the portfolios he doesn’t show how much he spent for a stock, so it’s not clear if the portfolio is in red or green. He admitted he did mistakes in the past: it could be nice to do some analysis at posteriori about the mistakes. It’s not possible to comment in the platform, only writing emails is possible.
He sold the stocks all of a sudden… I’m not 100% sure to believe at all the reasons he shared, but anyway, he could have done in a less dramatic way, explaining months in advance to the customers what his projects was, and do it little by little…

    1. yes absolutely, the communication was a clear fail. The problem is that I think, then when I do something I usually report in the next 20 minutes which weren’t enough to explain properly. Therefore a bit of temporary chaos, but from now on all should be clear:-) Thanks!

  10. I am not a subscriber to Sven’s platform but I was interested in clarifiing: are the valuations of the stocks that Sven sold all togheter still valid? His economic conditions change ok, but maybe others that bought these stocks don’t have change in economic opportunities so in theory they should hold theme, right? If so, without considering the possibility of having the track record yield cancelled, why many people are angry with him?

    1. Hi Zeno, everything continues as it was on the platform. I am changing things up personally and people got pissed, but all is explained, the risk and reward etc…

    2. @Value Investing with Sven Carlin, Ph.D. put it simply, if you have said that “A” stock is a buy at 100 dollars and it was bought by me and you at 90, then you sold “A” for your personal reasons at 70 dollars, for me instead nothing change so I hold this stock and maybe i bought more considering that the price of “A” has lowered , right?

  11. I like the platform! It has helped me immensely. I exited 90% of positions last week too. I don’t like what I’m seeing and will be looking for bargains soon enough. Energy inflation and general inflation is going to break the consumers back. Can’t wait for winter in New England! Way too many people are going to get hurt. I lived through the 70’s having to pay up. It wasn’t fun and it hurt.

  12. Hi Sven, and thanks for all that you do for us who love to follow your channel. Your insights and the time and effort you invest to teach, discuss and disclose important subjects in investing, finance and life is truly amazing! Nowhere else can you get all this, and for free, so that is important to keep in mind. I wish you a great weekend, and I know certainly I’ll stay subscribed here for the long run.

  13. So, you’re building back better? I hope you do better than what the fed has done to my retirement accounts, especially yesterday.

  14. Why people do not get? or you guys don’t wanna understand ? Sven believes that market is too expensive , the crash ( or called technical recession ) is on the way. The made mistakes about stock picking and he admit that.
Summary; I made a mistake, i am out for a while as market will go down more ( kind of market timing ) , let the dust settle , i will start buying and build new portfolio in 2023.

  15. Sigh…. so many people still complaining about selling stocks and Sven’s personal decisions, grow up people. If you rely on Sven’s decisions to be able to sleep at night then value investing is maybe not for you. The value of Sven’s platform does not come from his decisions (that it only relevant to him as his life differs from ours). The platform value comes from the research and rationale he provides where I trust it will pay off in the long term. Probably most people that stepped in during a bull market will now quit the research platform but that is to be expected when hypes end, has nothing to do with Sven.
Its also funny how life works, when Burry sells all his stocks he is considered a genius but when Sven does it, there are only haters 🙂
Life is a process of learning and getter better at things, no-one can tell you they improved by doing the same thing years and years. This is Sven growing (also in terms of communication to us) and I support him as a long term research platform member, keep it up Sven! Im sure my 300 dollar per year subscription will be a bargain in years to come 🙂

  16. I always just try to learn what methodology sven has for investing but rarely do I just buy stock because sven made a video on it or that it was on the excel sheet. His stock analysis is also valuable. I think people became too reliant on Sven and think he’s your personal financial advisor. Regardless of what Sven does with his stocks, his information is still valuable but it’s up to us to buy a stock and be confident that we made the right buy because we done our homework, not because it popped up on sven’s list. Do your own due diligence guys : )

    1. yes, people just followed what I do and not looked at their own risk and reward. The funny thing is the model portfolio continues as is, so they can still follow, but I guess some had to have me do what they wanted 🙁

  17. Hi Sven. Just a clarification on what is changing on the Platform between now and 2023. If I subscribe now, will you still be interacting with your platform subscribers, doing new research, sending out emails? Or will you take a pause and resume in 2023? Just trying to understand if I should wait to subscribe. Thanks!

    1. All remains the same, the model portfolio continues as it was, research, all the same. From 2023 my money will be separated from any expectations on the platform, but all disclosed. That is about it. Small change that should be an improvement.
