I’m an idiot. Can someone show me the math and logic for why MSFT needs to increase it’s earnings by 4x given a future PE of 20 if I want to 2x my return within 7 years?
Say you buy MSFT at a price to earnings of 40. If it now goes to 20 (down 50%), you lose 50% of your money. In order to double your initial investment while staying at the same P/E, the earnings need to quadruple.
