Totally agree
They were 1/14 (on time/late departure) for me this past CY 2023.
AC fails every metric and it is so bad that I often wonder if they care about customers, very unfortunate.
Embarrassing how bad the service at Air Canada is
air canada, westjet top the list? id like to see the link to this list… im assuming its a pearson international airport thing??? seeing how busy that airport based on watching planes arrive and depart from there, it doesnt suprise me its highly related to that airport.
I’ve never flown Air Trasat, Sunwing, etc. For the life of me I can’t understand why anyone would.
Well for one, they fly to the destinations people want to go to and bake in the sun. There is not much choice if you want to go to Mexico, Cuba or that area.
for vacations Air transat is by far the best, coming from someone who is an avid sun vacationer.
AC sucks there over priced late always loose luggage and don’t care about there customers. As there stock reflects this
Remember Air Canada’s motto: we’re not happy ’til you’re not happy…
Stock is looking pretty cheap…….
If its not a 8am or earlier flight with AC, I aint booking it.
Hi Marc, always great to catch the news 😉
I flew a lot in 2023. Both AC and westjet really crap the bed when it comes to being on time, cancelling flights, and of course I can’t forget about my wife and 9 yr old being stranded in Toronto after 14 hrs of seemingly pointless delays. Thanks WESTJET…you do Canada proud I guess. As for flight attendants, they deserve to be paid for every minute that they are on board an aircraft. Who knows…maybe AC and westjet will start leaving on time if they have to pay their crew for waiting!?! God knows they don’t give a rats that their customers are just sitting around wasting hours of their lives!
A lot of other factors for on time performance is a shortage of flight crews. The other big airlines in the United States have paid out big increases to pilots in order to attract pilots. Delta and United and American generates more cash flow and can afford this. If everyone remembers Air Canada had to borrow money from the government during the pandemic as they sold off 6% of the company. Westjet is still not comparable to Air Canada in terms of the size of operations as Air Canada run with on average just over 1615 flights per day and Westjet averages 700 flights per day. Just so the average person doesn’t understand the difference in operating these 2 still a big difference. One other factor not mentioned is Toronto Pearson airport is considered the worst airport in the world in terms of baggage belts that break down and customs not staffed and security checkpoints under staffed and happens to be Air Canada’s biggest hub. Remember all the stories of these issues and Air Canada can’t control all these issues. Big reason why Westjet pulled a lot of flights from Toronto and they have focused building up the Calgary hub.
I do a lot of vacations down south in the winter (6 or 7 yearly)… for down south Air transat is by far the best… I have flow AC, westjet, sunwing, and transat… Only Transat actually leaves and arrives on time… last 2 vacations was westjet, and they left Toronto late both times, but got home on time.. they forgot to pick us up at the resort on one trip and we almost missed our flight… Sunwing dont even get me started, I avoid them at all costs (now owned by WestJet recently).. 8 vacations with Sunwing over the last 3 years, and 6 times they had major delays – they buy well used older planes from Europe and the planes break down a lot and need more repairs… Pearson in Toronto and the punta cana airport bumped sunwing from the terminal because they screw up all the arrival and departure times, so you have to take a shuttle and board the plane out on the tarmac wherever they can get space when they finally arrive, and when there is a delay they will tell you its a mechanical failure so they dont need to compensate you… Flown AC twice in the last year and so far 50% failure rate.. So sticking with Transat for now, I think we had 1 20 minute delay in the last 5 years. As a matter of fact, Transat has arrived 15 or 20 minutes early several times now when we have flown… However, the whole flight attendant thing, its crazy they are only paid when plane is moving, lots happens prior to departure and they are needed to board passengers etc.. the pay sucks for them..
Worst airline ever. Left me stranded three times. Never again. Will drive before ever using AC again. Pathetic
I fly with AC, my longest delay in 2023 was 12 hours. I did get a $1000 in compensation which I deposited in my RRSP!!!!
Thanks Marc. Happy New Year!
