So this video was like 16-18 minutes long and I ended up chopping lots out to try and keep it shorter for you guys 🙁 I am very curious to hear how many stocks you think is best to hold in a portfolio! Leave a comment down below and thanks for watching 🙂
I landed in this July 2022 as a PR , will my tfsa room starts now or it will start once I file my tax in 2023 ? I want to be sure so as not to pay penalty .
Only hold the ones that will make you money
I run 20 single stocks and 10 etf.
In four accounts
Can, us, celi, reer
I own 14 stocks…over 16 it feels too much of a chore for me to keep up with how all my companies are doing. There are no right or wrong answer, it’s based on your risk tolerance and with what you are comfortable with. I can live with 14 because they are companies I do believe are undervalued and have a good balance sheet and will likely be around for awhile although there are never any guarantees in life. I know people who are comfortable with just 5 (Charlie Munger comes to mind if we talk about investors we know).
I only have 20 good companies.
After seeing large cap like Walmart and Meta dropping 25% day after earning this year, I don’t want to own a smaller, concentrated portfolio anymore. This market is too volatile…
I would add one more consideration: the amount of money you are able to allocate in your positions. If you do DCA would be hard when having a lot of positions if you don’t have enough money. Nice video as always Brandon
VEQT holds ~12,000? I only hold VEQT / XEQT in my TFSA. My taxable account has 8 and im trying to build a little more diversification in that, albeit slowly.
Best number of stocks to own is 1 diversified index ETF.
Indeed a great option as well 👌🏼
Hi Brandon,
Can you please comment of the potential risks due to inflation and the recent comments made by Micheal burry and Cathy woods. Thank you
Good video. I own 23
This conversation gets a lot more interesting once you add index funds into the mix. If someone tells me they have 20% of their funds in Tesla and 80% in an S&P500 etf, I’d say that’s a pretty diversified portfolio, even though they technically only own one stock 😄
I know very well that I won’t be able to constantly beat the market…maybe one year, maybe two, maybe three but definitely not over and over. Therefore I have 95% of my money in ETFs like VEQT, VFV, XIC and some PLAY money in some individual stocks because yes it’s fun…
