  1. Remember when the big thing was custom voices for your car GPS? My Optimus will have an Orson Welles impersonator as Unicron.

  2. Dave, I see this differently, I see the AI robot as a factory line speed multiplier, able to make a factory double, triple, perhaps higher, thereby making hard capital suddenly worth far more. On the other hand, the home chore replacement will be of interest but not of great economic benefit, but that is my opinion. Capital multiplier will be the revolution.

    1. Yes. Personal assistant robot is t much of a need with Amazon shopping and things like Zoom

    2. I think it’s going to be a bit of a surprise how inexpensive these robots will be when mass-produced the Power Electronics basically a solved problem the hard part is the brain, which is all software in Tesla’s approach so once all the economies of scale ochre costs go down dramatically

    3. Chicken eggs are free. You’re paying for people to encourage them to make more eggs and deliver them to you. Imagine genetically modified wild chickens that lay eggs as quickly as the chicken design can make them. There would be an abundance of free eggs you could just pick up from the ground.
Now imagine trained wild kangaroos. They would collect eggs and drop them off at your door.
How much would eggs cost in this dream scenario? They would be free.
Yes, there are a lot of impossibilities, but change egg to iPhone and chickens and kangaroos to robots. How much would iPhones cost? How much would anything cost?

    4. @Corey Coddington Inexpensive is a relative term, in contrast to a dollar amount. Here’s one way to reason to a price once economies of scale are achieved: iphones are mature technology that fully benefit from economies of scale. The most expensive iPhone weighs 8 oz and costs $1600, which is $3200/lb. Last Aug, Tesla said bot would weigh 125 lbs. The most high end mature Teslabot will be packed with terabytes of ram and massive processing capability, not to mention titanium, lithium etc, so it could — even with economies of scale — be priced at $3200/lb * 125 = $400,000.

    5. Capital multiplication yes, but even that has depreciation maintenance disadvantages. That like industrial machines add up.

  3. When we compare industrial robots their weakness is often vision and precision. They can’t recognize things properly, grab thins and put things in small other pieces with precision. That is not a big problem for Optimus or Tesla AI. I think Elon wanted to buy Twitter to have access to human reasoning and argumentation so that Optimus can understand humans and respond in a human way. When you compare to the robots like Sophia they are heavily scripted. They can’t really make own thoughts. Open AI is already very good taking the Knowledge from the internet and put it into explanations. But it is not yet on the level of human reasoning. The advantage that twitter would have given the Optimus AI is, that they could have learnt to argue on a personal level. Find out what the persons peer group thinks etc.
Optimus is the most exciting project ever done in AI. The future is exciting

  4. Even if they are able to pick items, move boxes from one place to another, pack an item into a box for shipment and load onto a truck would be huge for a lot of small and large businesses. This would save lots of time and money.

  5. if i was an AI expert i can’t think of any company that even comes close to being where I would want to work

  6. As a tesla investor I’m skeptical. This challenge goes far far far beyond anything tesla has delivered on and will wait for the burden of proof in this situation.

    1. Skepticism is always the default, but 5 yrs or so? I have little doubt it’ll get done.

    2. It’s just the next logical step in technology and it’s going to happen whether or not tesla is the one doing it.

    1. @tmc che people should be having parties, singing, dancing, painting, hiking, imaging, designing and consuming and enjoying. Machines should be moving, carrying, building, cleaning, producing and serving. I think it’s a very exiting future.

    2. @tmc che I would love to have a dinner-debate on that subject with Elon. The population HAS MORE THAN TRIPLED in my lifetime, bringing destruction, pollution, and a rate of extinctions not seen since the asteroid wiped out the dinosaurs. I’d say we have far too many people, and fewer is better.

  7. Good take Dave, but we would order the groceries on our app, or the bot would and then we would have it delivered but when it arrives it would bring the items in, but them away or serve them to you. I can see a future of bot delivering packages last mile as well as the more difficult tasks of doing household chores. The moment Optimus can iron clothes and clean the bathroom… we would beat a path to Tesla’s door.

  8. Yeah! I also think that Optimus will be much easier to make useful than a car. But I don’t think FSD is that much later, at least hope not!
I really look forward to seeing the evolution of the hardware as well as the software.
Another application could be avataring robots and sparing partner in VR

  9. Dave, I’ve had FSD for 34 months. This latest version finally gives me hope, which in turn gets me hopes 😀about “I Robot.”

  10. Elon has said governments will need to have universal pay for everyone when robots make everyone unemployed, Elon is driving this.

  11. With the greatest respect I think your Teslabot shopping senario is in reverse. Would it not be more beneficial for a delivery company or virtually integrated retailer use a FSD van an robot to out Amazon Amazon. Why would you want to limit the service to Tesla owners and robot owners.

  12. AI Day 2 is the #1 most exciting thing that I am looking forward to tied for #1 with the Starship launch. Elon’s companies are so inspiring. It sucks to see so much targeted FUD.

  13. It seems that the FSD development (navigation, accident avoidance) for cars may be used for similar Optimus AI. Logically Elon’s focus on efficiency may be working on both simultaneously…. BUY TSLA NOW before investors figure out that a functional Optimus could be right around the corner…

  14. It will be a long time before we see robots serving us around the house, but I can imagine many places where an Optimus would be ideal. Operators in oil refineries and chemical plants make endless rounds around their units to monitor equipment, record readings from gauges, and to perform routine maintenance, exposing themselves to many dangers and chemicals. An Optimus robot could do it all more efficiently. Robots could perform vertical and high angle access to the outside of buildings, towers, and other structures for inspections and maintenance. Imagine a team of robots in agriculture, keeping crops free of weeds and pests, planting and harvesting crops, and shipping products to processors. There are countless ways Optimus will be utilized. I am soooo happy to own a few shares of Tesla stock!

  15. Dave, I don’t think we’ll go to the grocery store or any other store much longer. Stores will “soon” close and there will only be delivery done by bots.

  16. They probably just bought one of those boston dynamics dog robots and put their own outer shell on it.
