  1. No question Tesla securing the supply of raw materials, and their own battery production line will be a huge advantage in the future.
Very interesting to hear Drew talking about the solar roof situation. Wish that was available to be installed at a reasonable price.

  2. Tesla’s ability and willingness to THINK LONG TERM AND SHORT TERM is what gives me confidence in them over any other investment I have. It seems obvious at first glance but really look around and try to find organizations/govt agencies/ groups/ friends that manage to do both or sadly even one part of this well if you find any doing it at all.

    1. I want Tesla to succeed but it’s delusional to believe it’s worth more than Toyota, or to think techy complicated door handles are better than simple reliable proven systems. Also Tesla is trying to end auto ownership in favor of the rental robo taxi which might not go over too well. Tesla needs to be more pragmatic and market cars to the present day instead of a hypothetical future.

    2. How old are you? IMO you gotta be over 50 to think like this. Or you have never test driven a tesla.

  3. It’s reassuring how well Drew, and presumably others at Tesla, has thought all of this through.

  5. It’s impressive how Drew voice and discourse are confident, very clear and relaxed while at the same time, his body language shows a great deal of anxiety you wouldn’t expect from a man with so much responsibility and so many people to manage. It makes him look very accessible and likable.

  6. Highly recommend watching the Limiting factors recent discussion on this. It’s phenomenal.

  7. I’ve been in construction 40 years. The idea of prefab homes has been around for longer than I’ve been in the industry. Improvements have been made along the way that’s for sure, speed and quality.
I think you have a good idea and one that Tesla may be able to work with today but instead of starting a new company for prefab homes they should get together with companies like Wausau homes and others and give them direction to start building more sustainable housing. Solar roofs, battery storage, geothermal etc etc etc. I think that would be feasible for them at this time. Who knows?

  8. Drew Baglino is thinking same as Elon in solving the lithium issue and scaling the batteries …..Tesla is in safe hands….so very proud of these kinda people working with tesla

  9. Will be great to have some updates on the Lithium clay extraction they were mentioning at Battery day.

  10. Improving energy density has many positives. Less materials, less weight, and lower cost. The elusive silicone anode will help this happen. This is a big problem, the key is slowing down the problem while increasing production of vehicles.

    1. I think solar roof price is a little prohibitive at the moment. If they scaled a little better, definitely would be great. Provibanly all materials are focused on higher margin autos at the moment.

  11. I think Tesla will eventually realize, if they haven’t already, that the rest of industry is not/willing to see it and they must be ready to go it alone. Humanity is like a child busy screaming it’s resistance to change but will ultimately be much better off.

  12. its just crazy how technically smart Drew is as an executive. Its not just Elon all tesla leadership have highly technical leaders.

  13. Nice job as always Dave. I have been intently following a company, ABML which is now run by another early Tesla employee Ryan Melsert. This company is still in the startup phase. One of its areas of interest is in extracting Lithium from desert sands…… and the own quite a few leases in Nevada.

  14. China already made the moves in Africa to build relationships and secure its access to rare metals and materials. The US missed its opportunity and is playing catch up. Hope they figure something out.

  15. Thanks Dave. Tesla RV? You RV. Brilliant idea. I had a Class C Motorhome and it was a drag doing maintenance and even emissions tests on it! Maybe Tesla could make a trailer with a small battery pack and drive unit both for better range and for dry camping. I think Airstreamhas a trailer like this already

  16. So, who among us thinks that a government, that is being paid off and lobbied by big oil and the UAW, is going to help get lithium mines permitted faster so Tesla can become a $2T or $3T company?

  17. “I’ve always wondered if Tesla can just make a house.”
That’s a good point. They will have to if Musk intends to build a colony on Mars and it’s clear everything is about that. To me, it’s one of the reasons why the company is so different. Their goal isn’t limited to this planet.

EDIT: After you said that, now watch them bring out their unusual engineered homes. ha!

  18. Great content Dave, I really appreciate you! These are the kinds of topics that made me interested in Tesla more than a decade ago, we need more of this!
