  1. I have started to have the same feeling in the past years. We are truly living in the future and it is approaching really fast. We have things that I’ve dreamed of when I was a kid in the 90s. ❤

  2. I’m a software engineer and ChatGPT is already solving real-world problems for me! It’s like pair programming with a senior engineer that knows almost everything. And this is just the beginning of the AI era.🤯

    1. We’re going to see an exponential growth of software development as software engineers 10x their productivity by using AI assistants.

    2. It’s insane. I recall, in the ’90s, hearing a story about the first instance of a spreadsheet program – maybe in the 60s or 70s? – being shown to an accountant for the first time. Although possibly apocryphal, the story sounded credible – the accountant, who’d worked his entire life with pens & written ledgers, was shaking when he understood what the software was capable of doing, and what this meant for his job. I feel somewhat the same way – I can see a saving of hundreds, maybe 1000s, of hours on a project I’m currently working on. The consequences of *everyone having access to this is where my thinking’s likely to remain until I can assure myself of superiority of positioning. Dusting off the Greeks and Sun Tzu seems timely 😉

    3. @A person I’ve heard this story too and I agree with you that this is a similar situation. This is a force multiplier like we have never seen before. IF there is a recession, we will boom like crazy on the back of AI on the other side.

  3. I am working on a script for a recruitment video and tried ChatGPT. It has been giving me great examples, some complete with interviews.

  4. Thank you so much Dave and James for your contribution to the community… I know it obvious, but I think it needs to be said. Happy holidays to all🎄🎆🎉!

  5. I spent the entire hour of this podcast playing with the Ai you both mentioned. It was facinating. I’ve never had an interaction with technology like that.

  6. What could an IBM PC do in 1982? I bought my first dual floppy IBM PC IN 1982 (I bought it on the day of release at an IBM show). It cost me $5,000 in 82 dollars, but saved me a small fortune in mainframe time sharing services while I was developing a medical billing system using the Realia COBOL compiler. It catapulted my career in directions I never could have imaged. That personal early adoption gave me an immediate monster leg up on my contemporaries. My wife may not have agreed at the time, but she forgave me when things went well in the long run. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I hadn’t thought about that time in many years. Those were interesting days, but the advancement of AI today is absolutely blinding.😊😊😊

  7. At the current rate of advancement, we could have the first AGI by 2030. 2045 is almost guaranteed. The implications of GPT3/chatGPT and image generation touch upon almost everything, including things thought uniquely human like creativity, intuition and ethics.

Society hasn’t wrapped its collective head around what is happening yet because it’s happening so fast.

  8. Hi Dave and James. I love your work guys.
I am a family therapist and I asked Chat GPT to draft me a role play of therapist interviewing a withdrawing husband and an intruding wife. The dialogue was very impressive as a training tool for counselling students.
I then asked it to apply a counselling modality to a client’s need and it did a great job.
Like on I Robot … we have to ask the right questions.

    1. Completely agree on James. Dave is a poor host. If I had a friend as smart as James, the ratio of me speaking vs asking questions would be completely reversed to Dave. Crazy to see how little he engages or builds on conversations.

But if this is where I need to go to listen to James, so be it.

  9. It’s always weird watching Dave talk about ML – he really “gets” evaluating a business model or financial report, but definitely doesn’t have a feel on ML…

James keeps steering him back to what actually makes sense for ChatGPT, and then Dave just goes back to try and measure its knowledge capacity (it doesn’t store facts or such, it just imitates and generates language) –

  10. I was stuck at a technical problem on AWS and looking for some creative ideas to solve it, and chatgpt just gave me exactly that. The implications are beyond crazy!

  11. I introduced ChatGPT and DALL-E to my 11 y/o daughter recently. She is amazed. Her creativity with both tools leads me to believe our techno future is bright!

  12. Wow, this was a really good introduction to latest AI breakthroughs. I am very tempted to go and finish Andrei Karpathy’s class that takes us into the details.
