Russia's intensifying war in Ukraine has prompted unmatched financial sanctions versus the nation. Over the weekend, Russian banks were even more cut off from the global monetary system. Some have actually been excluded from the SWIFT payments system while moves have been made to stop the Russian central bank using its $630 billion (EUR562 billion) of foreign reserves. The sanctions are by far the most severe to have actually been leveled at Russia since the country invaded Ukraine last week. The nation's increasing financial and political seclusion is currently causing significant effects for the economy, the 11th-largest in the world by GDP.
Russia's currency, the ruble, fell by around 30% to tape lows after the latest sanctions, although it did recuperate a little in recent hours. That substances massive losses currently experienced last week. In action, the Russian central bank has actually made an emergency decision to trek rates of interest from 9.5% to 20%. The bank has likewise momentarily blocked the sale of securities held by immigrants. The currency collapse has actually led to long lines outside ATMs across Russia, with worries increasing over additional plunges in the worth of the ruble. On Monday, the reserve bank announced that the Moscow Stock Market would not open. It likewise said in a statement that it has increased interest rates to support "monetary and price stability and safeguard the savings of people from depreciation."

I do feel sorry for the people caught between Putin’s war.
I feel for ordinary Russians but they need to feel at least a tiny bit of the pain their military is inflicting on Ukraine.
Yes it’s sad for the “common” Russian to be sure. But…. they elected this monster 4 times!
Sooo much damage, soo much hurt to soo many people.
But, sometimes economical shut downs seem the only way.
It is sad, so many people will be hurt in many ways.
And those war leaders, not hurt as much.
@Richard Ivonen many countries in Asian throw away dolar us Adan eura , transaction local currency stalment.
This should open the eyes of poor countries who are still deceived into believing in the existence and safety of the so-called global financial system.
Sorry to break it to you, but when you trade internationally, you are automatically dependent on other nations.
Feeling so sorry for people who didn’t even have any saying in these…
I wonder how eldery pensionors will keep feeding themselves now. They already had a super low income and now the inflation will starve them 💔
Why is it that always innocent people have to pay..
I do feel for the average citizens…. As seen by demonstrations in St. Petersburg, this is a very unpopular conflict and as much as the suffering being inflicted on the Ukrainian people makes me sick… I do try to imagine having no control on what your leadership does. We were kinda in the same boat not long ago!
Its the common man that hurts
Yes. U can change it. I’ve seen it in my counrty philippines. We ousted the dictator Pres Marcos
@M Wintersweet I’m Ukrainian and we know who you really are.
I am sorry for all ordinary people anywhere affected by one lunatic .
@Артем Артем same question popped into my head 😁
@Aburetik That has been taken care of. Russia has its own system of financial transactions and so does China. It’s a matter of time till other countries develop their own systems or join the existing ones that aren’t controlled by the USA.
@Mantas VCare to provide any proof that Putin is in fact a lunatic? Or do you choose to think so just because your media want you to?
@Артем Артем good. All other countries should also join Chinese or Russian systems in addition to SWIFT. The monopoly of SWIFT is a threat to the world.
sorry but all russians are safe and happy. thanks for your concern hahahaha
Sorry for normal citizens for paying and part of a harsh decesion by authorities.
Ultimately citizens are responsible for their country. Typical “It’s some other random dude causing the problem” straw man argument.
Im Polish person and was scared to see first German reaction to the conflict. Sending helmets, not wanting swift sanctions on Russia. Likely I was wrong and Germany seems to woke up and they are standing up to Putin bully with us and the rest of the civilized world. I hope the will stay this way. Life is more important then bussines
@Amila De Silva NATO Kosovo campaign– 1999. Euro becomes EU currency– 2002.
Well, “Polish person”, I’ll trust Germans government more than I trust Poland’s, which in terms of ideology is not that far removed from Putin.
nope germany is still with russia , hahahaha sorry for you but
@Damini Patel today the main Russian alliance are with north korea, syria etc. Which I understand as government of those countries have similar views. No free speech, u are not allowed to demonstrate etc. North Korea and Russia also then both want to be pariah state, and they like when their citizens are extremely poor as it make it easier to stay in charge
Aaaaaaaand history reapets itself…. Germany was also punished after starting war, the punishment also crippled its economy, and it only made things worse….
if you’re right about that 20% estimate that happens to be exactly how much the Russian banks are now offering people to keep their money in the bank
The saddest thing about this is that putin was ready for that but simple people will suffer a lot. And people will pay the price for what he had done. And we can’t do sh~t with him. People tried so many years…….but still trying( Fingers crossed that all this madness will end soon! Peace to Ukraine and Russia
@MrRais96 Why didnt Russia start a UN warcrime investegation?
@Orlando Vasquez north Korea is different though they are not educated enough imo. but the Russians/Russian population is different. if it comes to that there will be a revolution IMO
their universities are some of the best in the world
Exactly. People don’t understand that Russia can raise their interest rate because they have very little debt. If the US tried to raise interest rates the interest payment on the $30 trillion debt would collapse the country.
You know that all is lost for Russia when Switzerland blocks their secret bank accounts.
@Алекс Македонский Even though Russia has nearly five times as many residents as Texas, the Lone Star State’s economy is more than $400 billion larger. Texans, therefore, enjoy a gross domestic product (GDP) per capita of around $58,000, whereas Russians have one closer to $8,700.But whereas Russia’s economy is highly dependent on exports of oil and petroleum products, the Texas economy is broadly diversified. The state ranks first in the U.S. for not only oil production but also wind energy. It has a robust agricultural sector, and it’s a leading hub for advanced technology and manufacturing, aeronautics, biotechnology and life sciences. Austin, the state capital, is steadily emerging as the most dynamic U.S. filmmaking city outside of Hollywood.
@Алекс Македонский In a couple year Russia will be totally irrelevant and useless.
China is growing rapidly and the US is already the technological, cultural, economical and military superpower.
This is Russia’s last grasp as getting some respect on the world stage.
In 10 year Ukraine’s economy will be as big if not twice the size of Russia and that means more money to spend on defence.
This is Russia’s only chance to make a move and they did.
This will now force Europe to spend more on their defence as Trump used to tell them.
If every NATO member starts spending 2% of their GDP on weapons and their military.
Now that would be a scary sight.
The Euoperan Union and NATO members combined are 57% of the world’s economy.
Putin wanted no NATO but now he has guaranteed he will get more NATO.
Finland, Romania and Bulgaria are already looking to join.
Thanks Putin.
100 United States Dollar equals
10’440.00 Russian Ruble
@MSD Group Not gonna happen.
And take what Rubles?
Hahahaha!
100 United States Dollar equals
10’440.00 Russian Ruble
Switzerland will not care, it will remain neutral and unperturbed until doomsday! LOL. Well Ukraine can learn.
This kind of thing never really worked in the past on other countries . Plus , Russia has a stable commodities market.
Fundamentally stocks still don’t make sense at their valuation. There is still fear of holding cash
Well said!..
SCAMMER ALERT !
Believe me lads. Stocks are not liquid enough to be practical. The system will implode if it doesn’t adopt a paradigm shift incorporating BTC in some capacities.
I feel like this will only cause Putin to go harder seeing that if they get the Ukraine then they would have legal access to their petrol stations, which would finance a lot of their downfalls.
I just hope we finally start thinking about energy independence all around. There are so many oil producing countries that should not have leverage over the world. The push for green energy should also be about reinforcing sovereign boarders and removing leverage that could force countries to compromise in ways they shouldn’t.
@blahbah us doesn’t buy much from russia
Your windmills are a laughing stock with those requests that the country needs. It won’t be better. Electric cars are very expensive and their engines will be changed every 5 years at a price of 60 thousand euros.
The sanctions are going to be felt the hardest on the lower/middle class people, on both sides.
This really troubles me, and i feel really sorry for those that are already struggling to keep up.
This on top of already skyrocketing energy prices. its going to become bad.
“Sanctions”? No. They are merely *”special economic operations”*
ага. уже 100 лет. ничего не меняется.
For every action there is a reaction. Holding US dollars is increasingly becoming a risky business. If the smart US politicians keep using the dollar as a political weapon by imposing sanctions left and right, the dollar as a worldwide reserved currency will be displaced and financing US deficits will be out of question. It is just a matter of time as all sanctioned and to be sanctioned parties and even allies are day and night figuring out how to replace the dollar.
When it comes to investing, we want our money to grow with the highest rates of return, and the lowest risk possible. While there are no shortcuts to getting rich, but there are smart ways to go about it.
I really appreciate everyone who has commented here .
